Have you ever dreamed of sailing around the world? Of making landfall at a small South Pacific Island after days at sea, using the wind to power you toward your destination while keeping company with a small and intimate crew of hearty dreamers like yourself? Does the idea of standing watch at night, steering the course, adjusting the sails and helping to navigate appeal to you? Are you ready for the challenge of weather, and the joy of riding the bow while dolphins frolic in the waves below? Or would you prefer to stay in sight of beautiful beaches and mountains, anchoring in a protected bay for lunch and a swim in crystal waters before enjoying an afternoon nap in the hammock on the foredeck?
Annie and I want to offer you the opportunity to join us in our exploration of the world, beginning May of 2026 in the Bahama Islands. We will be offering all inclusive charters at all ports of call, and during the passages.
John has been successfully running charters as a licensed Captain since 1990, and has owned and sailed boats in the Caribbean from Puerto Rico to Grenada, the entire eastern US seaboard from Maine to Florida, Mexico, Belize, Guatemala, Cuba, Bahamas, Colombia, Panama, Cayman Islands, Venezuela, and Hawaii. He is experienced and skilled in navigation (including celestial, a dying art!), passage making, weather prediction and heavy weather boat handling.

Key West has a lot of sleeping options but this was unique! It’s a working sailboat meaning it isn’t the ritz – but that’s the charm and WHY you choose it. Sit outside on a hammock with a unique view of the sunset and read a book. Sail for a few hours. Snorkel. Listen to stories of adventure. Get great recommendations by a local for meals. The options are limitless and Captain John will work to make it the trip you want it to be – customized to your needs. We were sad to get off the boat that last morning.

I have a lot to say about this booking with so little space. I booked this stay for my spouse who loves water thinking it would be fun to sleep on a boat. Captain John offered extra excursions which I booked separately; a night away at another island & snorkeling at several spots. This was by far the most exciting & enjoyable booking we have made. John is a very seasoned sailor, his confidence and knowledge on the water shows. He was able to maneuver around storms, navigate the wind & get us ashore safely all while being patient, calm and kind. He took us out to watch the fireworks, set up a hammock for lounging, showed us an amazing sunset & snorkeling a ship. Annie(Admiral) is great company & very helpful, always offering comfort and conversation. You will not go hungry as John and Annie prepared delicious meals, snacks & drinks(his club soda will be missed). Such an amazing honor and experience to be a guest on John’s boat. We will book again in the future. Thank you John & Annie!

John’s boat is a great place to spend the night and all day. John is a great host and will do everything possible to make your stay safe and fun. He prepares a great breakfast and dinner. It is a lot of fun to spend time with him and the boat and learn sailing from one of the best.
SAILING VESSEL ‘HALIA’
Her name ‘Halia’ is an Hawaiian expression of gratitude. I like to say it’s ‘hallelujah’ without the ‘leluj’.
Built in 1985, this Hunter Legend 45 is fast under sail and comfortable at anchor. Take the helm and feel the power of the rig as she beats to weather, or relax on the deck and soak up some warm tropical sunshine.
With a 14’ x 14’ main salon, there is ample room below decks to relax and enjoy dinner and a movie on the 42” flat screen TV. Or lounge in the hammock on the foredeck and watch the stars twinkle overhead. Swim right from the boat, or take the inflatable dinghy to explore reefs and shipwrecks in shallow waters. You will have the Master Stateroom with a queen sized berth and attached head (bathroom) all to yourself, so Welcome Aboard, and make yourself at home.

Join us in Nassau for a cruise to the Berry Islands, located just a day’s sail to the northwest of Nassau. Visit Chubb Cay, where we will explore a large area of mangroves with estuaries teaming with turtles, rays, nurse sharks, and a large variety of fish, all in shallow waters and clearly visible from the dinghy. A short sail then takes us to Whale Cay, where we can go ashore to explore the ruins of a mansion, lighthouse, church, and museum built by Joe Carstairs, ‘The Fastest Woman on Earth’ in the 1920’s.
